About Johannes

The Danish violist Johannes Pihl (b. 1997) started playing the violin at the age of four but fell in love with the viola at 17.

In 2017, he was accepted into the Royal Danish Academy of Music and in 2023 he finished with the highest grade after having studied under Lars Anders Tomter, Prof. Tim Frederiksen and Asbjørn Nørgaard from the Danish String Quartet. Afterwards, he went on to study in Paris under Prof. Sabine Toutain to work on his first solo concert “Lys og Mørke”, which will be premiered on February the 27th 2025 in Aarhus.

He has performed as a soloist with Aarhus Amatørsymfonikerne in 2020 and with Aarhus Jazz Orchestra in 2016, and one of his goals is to share the love he has for the viola and show what it has to offer as a solo instrument.

Currently based in Aarhus, Johannes enjoys taking part in various ensembles. In the Summer of 2024, he played at Aarhus Chamber Music Festival and he regularly assists in Aarhus Sinfonietta.
